From our workshop

Many of these are still going strong. The two jobs we do most are swapping the tired hard drive for an SSD and replacing the hard-drive ribbon cable, which wears through and causes the flashing question-mark folder at start-up.

What faults do you fix on the MacBook Pro 13-inch (Mid 2012)?

  • Slow spinning hard drive – an SSD upgrade transforms it
  • Failing SATA hard-drive cable (drive not detected, question-mark folder)
  • Worn batteries and swollen batteries lifting the trackpad
  • Noisy fans from dust build-up

Can you recover data from my MacBook Pro 13-inch (Mid 2012)?

The storage in this model can be taken out, which is good news if the Mac itself has died: we can remove the drive and recover your files directly, or move them to a new SSD. If the drive itself has failed, our data recovery lab handles clicking and undetected drives too.

Is it worth repairing my MacBook Pro 13-inch (Mid 2012)?

Its last supported system is macOS 10.15 Catalina, so it is now an older Mac. An SSD, battery or clean-up often gives it years more life, but for a serious board fault we will usually suggest recovering your data and putting the money towards a newer Mac.
